Robert N. Noyce Award is presented annually to recognize individuals for
their outstanding achievement and leadership in support of the U.S. semiconductor
industry. The award is the industry's highest honor for leadership and
was created by the SIA Board of Directors in 1990 to honor the memory
of Bob Noyce, co-founder of Intel and a scientist, engineer and entrepreneur
of world stature. Noyce, one of the two inventors of the integrated circuit,
was a leader in the semiconductor industry's efforts to influence public
policy, and improve American high-tech competitiveness.
Robert Noyce was a man of unique vision and leadership.
His life work and inventions contribute largely to the way we live, work
and play. The microchip has profoundly changed every aspect of human existence,
and Robert Noyce's contributions have truly changed the world.
Robert Noyce's Noteworthy Accomplishments and Contributions include:

|
Noyce Co-founded the
Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation, where he was responsible for
initial developments of Fairchild's silicon mesa and planar transistor
product lines. |
|
1960
|
Dr. Noyce's discovery
of the "Semiconductor Device-and-Lead Structure" made the
microchip possible and helped launch the modern electronics revolution. |
| 1968 |
Noyce co-founded Intel
Corporation with Gordon E. Moore. Noyce served as president of Intel
until 1975 and then chairman of the board until 1979. |
